The participants prepared an intensive programme that included theoretical and applied parts. Students were divided into several groups, and mini lectures were read in each of them, including a discussion about key types of modern media and their history – from transmission of oral stories in antiquity to the first book, newspapers, magazines, audiovisual media and the internet. The participants placed particular emphasis on the convergent processes in contemporary journalism, today’s blogs and internet media.
The applied part of the programme included preparation of a joint project – an illustrated newspaper on relevant events taking place at the school. Before the work started, the participants carried out several workshops, explained how to write an announcement, make good news coverage, create an author’s column, shoot a photo portrait, and conduct an interview. As a result, layouts of three newspapers for different ages were prepared, which will be published and delivered to the school by the New Year holidays. The students looked genuinely happy; never before had such a programme been so exciting and interactive. Each of the groups included editors, photographers, journalists, freelance writers and assistants. The children are looking forward to meeting their new friends again, with the published papers.
Those participating in the visit arrive empty-handed; they brought a backpack signed by an Olympic champion as a gift to Alyona, a student at the school and athletic champion in the Yaroslavl Region. They also brought the children a real telescope! When the guests were leaving the school, the November sky over Gavrilov Yam cleared. We hope that each winter and summer night the students will have the opportunity to enjoy a cloudless starry sky, to be happy and to dream!
